Employment Opportunities

Veterinarian

Want to live in a vibrant country town on the doorstep of the nation’s capital.
Breathe the fresh air, forget about the traffic, enjoy the outdoors, relax in the lifestyle of a spirited country town and work in an environment where you can make a genuine difference.

Yass is by-passed by the Hume Highway and within an easy 2.5 hr drive to Sydney, 2 hours from the coast, 20 mins from Burrinjuck Dam, 3 hrs from the snow and 40 minutes to Canberra with its associated entertainment, educational, sporting, cultural and retail facilities.

Forget about stress in the workplace as you will be supported by a highly aligned, trusting and respectful team that works together to achieve the best possible outcomes. You will have a dedicated nurse each day to assist you with surgeries, consultations and out calls. You will work 1 in 8, and have shared Saturday mornings and afterhours. You will be supported by 8 other veterinarians who are encouraged to discuss cases and to seek ways to improve. You can refer complicated or serious afterhours cases to one of 2 emergency afterhours referral practices in Canberra.

Don’t just believe me. Here is what a few of our previous vets have said.
"I worked at the Yass Vet Hospital for over 2 and a half years. Starting as a new grad I found Stuart Williams to be the ideal boss who was supportive of me in my early years and eager to impart his many years of wisdom working in mixed practice. The facilities are modern and the practice willing to adapt to new technologies. The practice is also large enough that there is always the opportunity to learn from other staff members and not feel overwhelmed or isolated which is very important for someone moving to a new area.
I also found that there was a good work life balance at the Yass Vet Hospital. There is a really collegiate and inclusive mentality there which helped me feel a part of the town and helped me integrate into the Yass community. I also found the diversity of veterinary work very rewarding and that there was good proportion of clients willing to work up cases. Overall it was the combination of a varied caseload and a supportive working environment with a great team of vets, nurses and support staff that made me thorough enjoy my time at Yass Vet Hospital. It was the foundation on which my veterinary career began and has helped me get to where I am today.
I would without hesitation recommend working here."

"This is a wonderful clinic to work at. The cases are varied, clientele usually want to work up cases to a high level and refer when required.
The nurses are attentive, well trained, highly skilled and take great pride in their work, making them a pleasure to work with at all times. They are very good at scheduling and assisting with administrative tasks which makes the days go very smoothly! They are also excellent at making sure you have morning tea and lunch every day!
The veterinary team are supportive and approachable, and have a great amount of knowledge and experience between them. There are daily rounds to discuss cases and regular staff meetings for discussing policy and procedures.
Both vets and nurses have excellent senses of humour and are great fun to socialise with both at work and outside of work time, and make special effort to include all team members in activities.
The clinic facilities are good, with all the tools needed for high level medicine and surgery on both small and large animals.
There are also large animal facilities available when required, and the cars are well set up for ambulatory work.
This really is a great clinic to work at and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there."

"I worked at Yass Veterinary Hospital for two years and had a wonderful time. I only left as we needed to move back to Tasmania. The variety of work was both stimulating and rewarding. There was a large proportion of cattle and alpaca work, as well as the more typical horse, dog and cat work of a mixed practice. The support from Stuart, Tamara and the other staff was amazing. It was a very friendly workplace, with lots of laughs (at appropriate times). The hospital had a good range of equipment, as well as regular and timely access to external laboratories. Yass itself was a very accommodating town, with plenty of sporting and social opportunities. The proximity to Canberra (and Sydney) also made it attractive for additional educational choices and partner employment opportunities. I would recommend Yass Veterinary Hospital very highly to anyone who wanted to work with great people across all species."
